On August 21, 2020, the USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub conducted a site visit to the facilities of Donkey Milk Industries, a Werda, Botswana-based firm that is vying to export its signature product to the United States. To support its bid, the USAID TradeHub has advised the producer on milk quality control and animal welfare issues. With USAID TradeHub support, Donkey Milk Industries hopes to list its products on Amazon.com. The move follows a June 30, 2020 USAID TradeHub webinar, “eCommerce Made Simple: Exporting to the U.S. via Amazon.com,” which featured U.S. trade promotion service provider Albert Scott LLC. Anticipating greater demand, Donkey Milk Industries is also working on an out-grower scheme for donkey farmers. The activity aligns with the USAID TradeHub’s third objective, which seeks to boost Southern African exports to the United States through the African Growth and Opportunity Act.
