The USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub has awarded a contract to U.S.-based NSF International to facilitate food safety certification for Malawi’s Conforzi Plantations Ltd., a producer and exporter of macadamia nuts, black tea, and other products. The Foundation for Food Safety Certification, known as FSSC22000, will allow Conforzi to complete a pending sale to U.S. tree-nuts importer Red River Foods Inc., which has approved the Malawian supplier as a prospective vendor. The FSSC2000 certification is key for achieving the export deal. NSF International is an American product testing, inspection, and certification organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. By forging partnerships with trade facilitation providers like NSF International, the USAID TradeHub assists export-ready Southern African firms to meet U.S. market entry requirements. The activity aligns with the USAID TradeHub’s third objective, which seeks to boost Southern African exports to the United States through the African Growth and Opportunity Act.
