From October 20-23, 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub hosted Janet MacLaughlin, Senior Advisor for Economic Growth: Office of Policy Analysis, and Benita Gunn, Global Issues and Initiative Coordinator, from the Department of State’s Office of Foreign Assistance (OFA). The OFA representatives traveled from Washington, DC to Pretoria, South Africa to visit the region and attended an introductory presentation at the USAID Southern Africa Mission delivered by the Trade Hub.
Following the Pretoria consultations, the OFA representatives traveled with the Trade Hub to Maputo, Mozambique where informal background discussions were held with Deputy Mission Director Sheryl Stumbras and Director of the Office of Agriculture, Environment, and Business John Irons, both of USAID Mozambique.
Following a short stay in Maputo, the group traveled to Chimoio and Catandica, Mozambique to conduct site visits to a variety of Southern Africa Trade Hub strategic partnership grant recipients as well as local NGOs conducting aflatoxin mitigation training. Of particular interest was the impact and success of Feed-the-Future programs within the Trade Hub and challenges, accomplishments, and lessons learned.
