January 9, 2020—The USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub is on track to deliver a national strategy for Eswatini to utilize the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). The USAID TradeHub is working closely with officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Trade (MCIT) to develop the strategy. Building on an earlier inception report and submission of required information by the ministry, the USAID TradeHub has completed an initial draft of the AGOA Utilization Strategy and Action Plan for Eswatini and will submit it to the ministry for review in mid-January. In addition, as part of the development of the strategy, the MCIT has scheduled stakeholder consultations in Eswatini to be conducted in close collaboration with the USAID TradeHub. The consultations are due to take place from January 28-31 in Mbabane, Manzini, and Nhlangano. The USAID TradeHub is currently firming up dates with the ministry’s counterparts. The outcome of the stakeholder consultations will be incorporated into the draft report in advance of planned validation workshops, currently scheduled for February 2020. The final AGOA Utilization Strategy for Eswatini is expected to be ready before the end of March 2020.
