SATIH Source Africa Case Study v21 February 2018.pdf
Southern Africa's apparel exports comprise a mere one percent of the U.S. market, but manufacturers have the capacity to export much more not only to the U.S. but also in the region. South Africa, a key apparel market, imports significant amounts of apparel from Asia despite neighboring competent manufacturers with underutilized capacity in Lesotho, Swaziland, Madagascar and Mauritius.Apparel manufacturers across Southern Africa lack the dense trade networks needed to grow at scale. The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Southern Africa Trade Hub (the Hub) addresses trade barriers by promoting two-way trade under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and attracts investment that drives commercial expansion within the region and to global markets.
