Gregory Maassen, Paul Davis, and Shannon Gaffney meet in Washington DCDuring the second week of December 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub held consultations in Washington DC with the Chief of Party of the Management Support and Technical Assistance Services Project (MSTAS), Paul Davis, and the MSTAS Trade Economist, Shannon Gaffney, regarding the planning and coordination for Southern African participation in MAGIC Las Vegas in February 2016.

MAGIC is the world’s largest and most important textile, apparel, and footwear trade show.

This year’s effort at MAGIC will be organized by MSTAS, with regional coordination and introductions provided by the Southern Africa Trade Hub. Based on the success of last year’s participation at MAGIC, USAID has decided to support an integrated “Sourcing Africa Pavilion” where textile and apparel companies from Southern, East, and West Africa will jointly exhibit.

After consultations with the Southern Africa Trade Hub, the MSTAS textile and apparel team traveled to Maseru, Lesotho, from December 14-18, 2015, to meet with the Lesotho National Development Cooperation (LNDC) and eight apparel manufacturers that have expressed interest in attending MAGIC.
