Naked Ape In February 2016, USAID will again support a number of companies from Southern Africa to attend the MAGIC Las Vegas fashion trade show. Based on the success of last year’s participation at MAGIC, USAID is organizing an integrated “Sourcing Africa Pavilion” where textile and apparel companies from Southern, East, and West Africa will jointly exhibit. A number of leading Lesotho and South African apparel companies have already committed to attend MAGIC.

As part of the recruitment process, apparel experts from USAID’s MSTAS (Management Support and Technical Assistance Services) project, supported by USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub, met on January 5, 2016 with well-known designer/owner Shaldon Kopman of Naked Ape Style (www.nakedstyle.co.za) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Naked Ape Style has recently moved into ready-to-wear garments and accessories, bridging the gap between individualized tailored items and off-the-rack attire. The company has also recently launched a new all natural fiber product widely popular in the Southern Africa region called the “Swazi Wrapper.” Naked Ape is considering showing at MAGIC 2016 and is interested in plugging into opportunities presented by the US market.
