February 20, 2020 — The USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub is partnering with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and Lesotho Millennium Development Agency (LMDA) on a February 17-21, 2020 investment roadshow in South Africa. The roadshow, which the Hub has played a pivotal role in organizing, began with four days of meetings with prospective South African investors at the InterContinental Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg and will culminate with a visit to Malalane Farm in Mpumalanga on February 21, 2020. The Johannesburg meetings are expected to attract more than 20 potential investors, including farmers, institutional investors, and cold chain and farm market players. Attendees will be briefed on opportunities in Lesotho’s horticulture sector. The visit to the farm in Mpumalanga will showcase an existing Community Private Sector Model to inform the development of similar efforts in Manka, Tsoili Tsoili, Likhakeng, and Phamong in Lesotho. The investment roadshow follows the Hub’s support to the formulation of a second MCC Compact for Lesotho. As part of that effort, the Hub developed an investment teaser that profiled opportunities in Lesotho’s irrigation and horticulture sectors.
