The USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub, in conjunction with Zambia’s Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, last week engaged private- and public-sector actors to conduct a baseline study for the recently launched Zambia Trade Information Portal. Developed with USAID TradeHub support, the portal, which was launched on May 29, 2020, makes trade-related information accessible electronically to importers and exporters. The objective of the current baseline study is to understand how trade information was disseminated to the private sector prior to the portal’s launch. Findings from the baseline study will be shared with the Zambian government and USAID and will be used as one part of a comparative study in future. Future surveys are planned by the USAID TradeHub to gauge how firms are using the Trade Portal, and how their knowledge and understanding of trade-related information will have improved. This activity forms part of the USAID TradeHub objective to provide targeted trade facilitation support to Zambia.
