On May 29, 2020, the USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub facilitated an introductory meeting between Zambia-based 260 Brands and 5Minutes2Town, a specialized distributor to the informal “spaza-shop” market, based in South Africa. In earlier discussions with the USAID TradeHub, 5Minutes2Town highlighted their interest in distributing a new product through its network of 60,000 informal businesses, which it supplies. 5Minutes2Town observed that porridge is often consumed with water rather than milk, due to the higher cost of fresh milk. Cross-selling powdered milk from 260 Brands would improve the marketability of the porridge by improving its taste. 5Minutes2Town is interested in pursuing this new product development as well as testing the distribution of other existing products manufactured by 260 Brands.
