Lilongwe, Malawi-based Dalitso General Suppliers has dispatched an inaugural shipment of non-GMO soya beans to a South African buyer, Pretoria-based Impilo Products. The 30-ton truckload, the first of 13 negotiated with assistance from the USAID TradeHub, departed for South Africa on Saturday, May 23, 2020. The remaining orders are due to be fulfilled between June and October 2020 and will yield approximately $150,000 in sales for the Malawi-based producer. The estimated value of the first load is $11,290. Assisting southern African producers to access the South African market is a key aim of the USAID TradeHub, which works with buyers to establish regional trade linkages. This outreach effort has received increased attention from buyers eager to avoid supply interruptions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to direct engagement with individual firms like Impilo Products, the USAID TradeHub is advertising its facilitation services in the newsletters of South African chambers of commerce.
