The USAID TradeHub is facilitating a partnership between South African firm Kalinda Trading and Zambian peanut producer COMACO which will help the latter process groundnuts for export to Europe and elsewhere. Kalinda Trading, based out of Pretoria, uses advanced technology to clean, blanch, and process groundnuts. The technology is specifically designed to clean ungraded nuts with unacceptable aflatoxin levels, enabling access to markets that would otherwise be out of reach. Following a Hub introduction, COMACO identified an opportunity for Kalinda Trading to support the blanching, processing, and packaging of organic certified nuts on the Zambian firm’s behalf. This ongoing negotiation, facilitated by the Hub, will mark a technology transfer from South Africa to the region with the potential for export.
