Source Africa, the annual fashion trade show that usually takes place in June, has been postponed to October 13-15, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Begun in 2013 with USAID support, the Cape Town-based event brings together regional apparel, accessories, and footwear suppliers. More than 300 exhibitors from 18 countries attended the 2019 Source Africa show. The USAID TradeHub has worked with the event’s organizers, Messe Frankfurt, to attract U.S. apparel and footwear buyers, including the American Apparel and Footwear Association, to the show. In 2020, the USAID TradeHub aims to attract five U.S. buyers to the show, culminating in a regional buyer mission to Lesotho and Eswatini, two of the region’s biggest exporters of garments to the United States under the African Growth and Opportunity Act.
