On the heels of a June 30, 2020 webinar, “eCommerce Made Simple: Exporting to the U.S. via Amazon.com,” the USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub has been following up on potential collaboration between webinar attendees and presenter Albert Scott LLC, a U.S. trade promotion service provider. To this end, the USAID TradeHub conducted a post-event survey to establish exporter interest in e-commerce services. Fourteen regional companies—from Botswana, Eswatini, South Africa, and Zambia—responded, along with a U.S.-based company representing several South African brands. Albert Scott LLC reviewed the export potential of the 14 companies and grouped them according to the different packages it offers to potential clients. Based on a USAID TradeHub discussion with Albert Scott LLC held on July 28, 2020, five of the 14 firms will participate in pilot e-commerce listings on Amazon.com, allowing these firms to market their products online. The USAID TradeHub proposed to share a proportion of the costs for these listings. Feasible timelines and deliverables are being established while an agreement with Albert Scott LLC is being finalized. Discussions on the activity will conclude by July 31, 2020.
