Trade Hub Legal Review Team MalawiUSAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub visited Malawi from June 8-12, 2015, to work with the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) to establish a technical working group to conduct the legal review for the Malawi National Single Window (NSW).

In February 2014 a Cabinet Directive was approved for Malawi to establish an NSW. An NSW is an online system that allows parties involved in trade and transport to submit all trade-related documents via a single electronic entry point to reduce the time and cost of trade. The legal review is designed to assess the country’s legislative readiness for National Single Window and will result in recommendations to harmonize Malawi’s legislation with international standards.

A series of meetings were held in Blantyre and Lilongwe to share the proposed work plan for the legal review with the nominated participants. The technical working group will draw on knowledge and expertise from the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Finance, the Malawi Law Society and the Law Commission of Malawi to complete the review.

The Trade Hub is also supporting the implementation of a public awareness campaign and providing Change Management Training to prepare relevant officials in Malawi for the successful implementation of the NSW.
